Jacksonville, Fl. We are please to announce the launch of a new online Ladies of Lupus t-shirt fundraiser at http://www.booster.cm/ladiesorlupusfundraisers. Raising the Awareness of Lupus Symptoms and Solutions to Save Lives is the focus of Ladies of Lupus Awareness initiative, Founded by business owner Gail Carter-Cade of, GA LA CAR, since 1989.
Mrs. Carter-Cade set up GA LA CAR Community Outreach to focus on supporting organizations that has affected her life personally. Ladies of Lupus t-shirt campaign aims to raise $1000 or more to continue funding awareness events and the Lupus Foundations of America/Florida Chapter research for a cure for Lupus disease. Gail Carter-Cade created the t-shirt styles. These gorgeous t-shirts are original designs created with the vision to educate, attract ladies with lupus to wear them proudly and to fit the female body comfortably.
When Mrs. Carter-Cade asked some people if they know someone who has lupus, most people replied that they “knew” someone who had lupus. By the time the loved one was diagnosed with lupus it was too late and they’d passed away. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report in May 2002 which indicated that deaths attributed to lupus increased over a 20-year period, particularly among African American women ages 45-64. However, it is not clear if the rise is the result of an actual increase in lupus mortality or better identification and reporting of deaths due to complications of the disease. Trends in Deaths from SLE — United States, 1979 – 1998
While lupus is a widespread disease, awareness of the disease lags behind many other illnesses. In a nationwide poll of 1,000 adults conducted for the LFA, 38% said they are somewhat or very familiar with lupus while 39% have only heard of the disease and 22% have never heard of lupus. In an another survey, only four of ten young adults ages 18-24 claimed to be aware of lupus, even though the disease often strikes during the childbearing years. A LFA survey of its members suggests that more than half of those afflicted with lupus suffered at least four years, and saw three or more doctors before obtaining a correct diagnosis of lupus. http://www.lupus.org/about/statistics-on-lupus
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various systems of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys. We are confident that because of our efforts, we will see and impact in lupus awareness locally. Mrs. Carter-Cade continually searches for new ways to give back through grassroots community events working to raise awareness and funds for Lupus research.
